At Faces By Design, our signature skin care treatment is the 90 minute Microdermabrasion Facial. It is so much more than JUST a pampering experience (although you will feel very pampered throughout!) – it is actually a comprehensive treatment that provides real health benefits!

Let’s review what to expect when you come in for your first 90 minute Microdermabrasion Facial. First, you’ll be greeted at our front desk and fill out a short form asking some basics about your skin and overall health. This form will be used by your esthetician to personalize the treatments and products she uses to create the best possible results for your skin.

Once you’ve filled out the paperwork, you’ll be escorted to our Disengaging Room. Here, you’ll be changing into a robe and slippers. Lockers are provided (with locks) to secure your clothing, shoes, purse, etc. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. You’ll take the robe off when in the treatment room – but you will be lying on a bed with a sheet and blanket for warmth and comfort. Privacy is maintained at all times.

2. Your esthetician will be doing some light massage on your neck and shoulders, so please remove your bra and all jewelry and lock it all up in your locker.

3. We recommend to our clients NOT to wear your best jewelry items when coming in for an appointment. This is simply to prevent loss or damage to your favorite items!

So – now you have changed and are ready for treatment. Relax in our Disengaging Room, enjoy some coffee, water, or snacks, and your esthetician will come and get you when her room is ready for your treatment. She will take you to the room, and leave while you disrobe and get under the covers. Don’t worry – she’ll give you a few minutes, and will knock before coming in!

Now your treatment will begin. First, she will pull your hair back away from your face. Then she will begin by cleansing with a gentle cleanser to take off all makeup. She’ll follow this up with a second cleanse to target your skin’s needs. This is followed by an exfoliant and toner/mist spray. Your esthetician will either use hot steamed towels or a steamer to open your pores.

She’ll then turn on her microdermabrasion machine, and begin this treatment. The part you’ll see her use is a wand, and she’ll hold your skin taut as she passes it over portions of your face. You’ll feel the crystals buffing your skin, and the suction removing those crystals and exfoliated skin. This is a unique sensation, but should not be painful – if it is, please say something! Your esthetician can adapt to make you comfortable.

Here is why we use microdermabrasion in our facials: it is the safest and most effective tool to remove the top layer of skin.

Why would you want to do that? Many reasons!

• Anti-Aging/Removal of Fine Lines
• Treatment of Acne
• Melasma/Hyperpigmentation/Sun Damage
• Encourage Production of Collagen and Elastin

This process basically removes the top layer of your skin, which is already dead. Those dead skin cells form a barrier, preventing the skin care products you use every day from reaching the lower layers of your skin – making them less effective. By removing this top layer, your home products will work better. You’ll see brighter, more even-toned skin after a microdermabrasion treatment. Your makeup will go on more smoothly and evenly. And you’ll speed up the normal skin renewal process (like it was when you were in your 20’s!).

Ok, back to your treatment…now that your skin has been deeply exfoliated, your esthetician will provide some very targeted treatments, based on your skin needs. This can include extractions (cleaning out pores/removing blackheads), oxygen therapy, brightening treatments, acne treatments – there are many choices, all based on your skin.

Then she will apply a targeted masque/s to your face. As your skin soaks up those ingredients, she’ll do some light massage to your neck, shoulders, arms, and hands. She may leave you to nap for a few minutes as your masque finishes its work.

Once your masque is removed, she’ll apply specialized serums (again, targeted to your skin’s needs) and moisturizers. At this point, your treatment is complete. Your esthetician will leave while you get out of bed and put your robe back on. Then you’ll walk back to the Disengaging Room to change clothes again. She will meet you back in this room to go over any specific instructions and offer product samples for you to try. When you reach the front desk, you can schedule your next appointment.

Please note: these treatments can be addictive! You will love your skin – the way it looks, the way it feels, and the compliments you will receive!! Our goal is for you to leave feeling refreshed and revived – both your skin and your soul!!
